Diabetes and Your Heart

Do you know the 7 things with which you can prevent cardiovascular disease? If not, then keep reading because especially as a diabetic you have to pay attention to your heart.
If you have diabetes, your risk of cardiovascular diseases is 2-4 times higher than in healthy individuals. A heart attack or stroke is often much more severe for people with diabetes. Furthermore, three out of four people with diabetes die due to a cardiovascular disease.

But the good news is, that you yourself can very much contribute to the prevention of cardiovascular disease – despite diabetes.

What are the most important factors that you have to consider, if you want to protect your heart?

There are 7 things that have been proven to damage your heart:

  • Smoking
  • Obesity
  • Lack of exercise
  • Unhealthy diet
  • High blood pressure
  • Bad cholesterol levels
  • Diabetes

You can directly influence four of these factors: smoking, your weight, exercising and your diet. If you have diabetes or, in addition, high blood pressure or bad cholesterol, it is important that you get those levels under control by changing your lifestyle. The better you succeed, the more you can reduce your risk of complications.
