Most people with a chronic disease are treated by so-called conventional medicine. Conventional medicine has made amazing progress in many fields in recent decades: insulin, antidiabetic drugs, antihypertensive drugs, innovative rheumatism medications and a lot of new technologies have improved the health of people with chronic conditions.
Nevertheless – even if we feel well cared for by our conventional doctor – for many people there remains a desire for additional support by alternative therapies. Medicinal herbs, massage, acupuncture, biofeedback, meditation – the field of alternative therapies is vast and varied. And that is why it is difficult to decide which of these options are the right choice in a specific case. Not all doctors who treat conventionally have a positive attitude towards alternative therapies. On the one hand this depends on the fact that many of them lack experience in this field. On the other hand some of the alternative methods have not been studied enough to determine the benefits and this can lead to broad caveats.
Doctors and scientists are increasingly recognizing that alternative therapies can be very efficient in addition to our conventional treatment. They can, for example, relieve pain, improve blood parameters, prevent further deterioration, improve the mood or facilitate our coping with disease.
To lead you through the jungle of these alternative methods, we want to show you a series of articles on this blog on which methods have been proven to be efficient, where possible dangers lurk and which procedures have been too briefly studied to make a clear statement.
It will make it easier for you to decide, what is best for you, if you feel the need to do something for yourself and your disease in addition to conventional medicine.
